HYDRANGEAS
(Saxifragaceae)
Grow well in most areas of Tasmania. Many varieties are available. Hydrangeas prefer rich, moist soils in a protected, partially shaded position, frost resistant but drought tender. Growing approximately 2meters tall with many stem which are erect. Leaves are ovate-acuminate, with serrate margins. Flowers are pink, white or blue, occuring in large, domed heads and appearing in summer.

Blue Hydrangea BLUE MAUVE HYDRANGEA
As for the blue hydrangea, and this colour maybe the luck of the draw being mauve-blue.

Blue Hydrangea BLUE HYDRANGEA
Will only remain blue if grown in acid soil, which can be attained with regular applications of Aluminium Sulphate.

Pink Hydrangea PINK HYDRANGEA
Will flourish in alkaline soil, which can be retained with regular applications of Lime.

White Hydrangea WHITE HYDRANGEAS
Do not change colour. Hydrangea should be severely pruned in winter.

Prunning PRUNNING HYDRANGEAS
Prune in winter after flowering, and prune with sharp clean secatures to just above the swelling of an outside bud - as shown in photo. Remove all the dead wood first. Can be prunned to what height you wish.
