POST CAPTAIN
Patrick O'Brian
Price: $550.00

Published by Lippincott, Philadelphia and New York 1972. First American Edition. A very good copy in a very good dust jacket (covered with protective plastic), with the exception of cellotape marks on inside flaps and unfortunately on the endpapers. Click here to see inspect.  A little shelf soiling on edges of pages, but book has virtually never been read.
A collector's book, this is the second and scarcest of the Aubrey/Maturin novels which include Master and Commander recently produced for the screen.

In Post Captain, Patrick O'Brian has given us another enthralling historical novel described as "a spirited, stylish sea tale with crackling pace and brilliant sense of period."  After his skirmish with Napoleon in His Majesty's armed brig "Sophia", Jack Aubrey lives the life of an English country gentleman until financial trouble ensues and he flees to France with Maturin to avoid prison. When war breaks out again, the pair escape back to England, where Aubrey is given command of the "Polychrest", an unseaworthy and eventually mutinous ship. As she prowls the English Channel, a bitter rivalry over a woman develops between the two sailors, and this builds to a climax as their ship joins a squadron in pursuit of Spanish treasure ships.

ISOBEL HARDY'S SCHOOLDAYS and other stories
Alys Chatwyn (and others)
Price: $3,000.00

Published by The Epworth Press, London (? 1920 - 30s). I cannot find any record of another copy of this early 20th Century example of schooldays literature following in the tradition of Thomas Hughes' Tom Brown's Schooldays. Measuring 8 1/4" x 6 3/4", and containing 96 pages, this cardboard covered collection has a virtually unbroken spine and only minimal surface wear to the cover.
Click here to inspect. The eight stories are illustrated with line drawings, and there is a colored illustration opposite the title page. This rare, if not unique, book will be a wonderful addition to a collection of such literature.
