Joseph Henry ENGLISH was born abt 1822 in Marylebone, Middlesex - no
baptism has been found yet.
We find him on the 1841 census at 52 Queen St, Marylebone, Middlesex as an
apprentice dyer (age 15 - rounded) with the ROOK family of tailors (PRO ref HO107/679/11/17/6).
No sign of William ENGLISH of a suitable age servant on the 1841 census yet.
On 25 May 1845 he marries Charlotte Susannah HAYNES at Parish Church of St George Hanover Square, Middlesex
after banns. They were both of full age, he a bachelor and she a spinster, both
address Gilbert St.
His father was William ENGLISH, servant and hers James HAYNES, saddler.
Witnesses were James Francis HAYNES and Rosina Jane HAYNES.
(NB I have managed to track some of this HAYNES family)
In 1846 he is listed in the London Post Office directory as a dyer of 36
Gilbert St, Oxford St, London.
In the June quarter of 1856 there is a death of Charlotte Susanna ENGLISH in the
Marylebone district.
In 1851 the couple are at 42 Queen St, Marylebone.
He is down as Henry Joseph ENGLISH head married age 29 Dyer born Marylebone, and
she CHARLOTTE wife married Horse Cloth Maker born Marylebone (PRO ref
HO107/1489/F302/pg65)
Still no sign of William ENGLISH of suitable age on 1851 census.
On 12 April 1857 he marries Eliza Ann WALLER formerly SHAW at Manchester
Cathedral after banns. He was age 35, a widow, dyer of 75 Lever St, Manchester
father William ENGLISH, butler. She was age 45, a widow, of 5 Stanley St,
Manchester father John SHAW, gas manager.
Witnesses were Isaac Bingham and Elizabeth Humphries.
On 16 Nov 1858 a son Henry Samuel ENGLISH is born in the West Sculcoates
district, Hull, Yorkshire (birth date from baptism, matches GRO and YorksBMD
listings).
Not yet located on 1861 census (not in Bury or Hull).
We find them on the 1871 census at Bottom of Roof, Bury, Lancashire, next door
with the same address is William and Esther HALL:

Joseph Henry ENGLISH must die between 1871 and 1873(cursory look at
GROs failed)
On 17 March 1873 Eliza Ann ENGLISH marries William HALL at St Paul's Church,
Bury, Lancashire after banns, they are both living at Hudcar St.
She is age 57, a widow, father John SHAW, labourer.
He is age 52, a widower, labourer, father James HALL, labourer.
Witnesses are Jane Taylor and John Wood.
On 25 Dec 1873, Henry Samuel ENGLISH is baptised at St Mary's Church, Bury,
Lancashire.
On 29 Feb 1880 Henry Samuel ENGLISH marries Martha Ellen BARNES after banns
at St Paul's Church, Bury, Lancashire. He was age 21, a bachelor, a Turner, of
14 Greenalgh Row, father Joseph Henry ENGLISH, dyer.
She was age 19, a spinster, of 27 Greenalgh Row, father Hargreaves BARNES,
carter.
Witneses were James HARDMAN and Mary Jane NUTTALL.
We find in 1881 at them at 14 Greenalgh St, Bury,
Lancashire, did William HALL die?

On 29 Sep 1917 Harry ENGLISH married Ellen BENNETT who had a son Jack
BENNETT.
A son Harry was born in 1918 but he died age 25 on 19 Nov 1943.
Harry ENGLISH senior died 2 Oct 1953.
On 6 Sep 1911 Nelly ENGLISH married George Edward BUCKLEY.
They had sons George English BUCKLEY (1912-1981)
