Roman Catholic

Our Lady of Good Counsel and the Guardian Angels (Guardian Angels), Harvey St, Elton, Bury BL8 2RD
In 1880 land on Walshaw Rd, Elton was leased and work began on a school/chapel.
In 1886, the first Priest was appointed and the first Mass said on 30 Jan 1887 at a temporary chapel in the old temperance hall at Woolfold.
The school chapel opened in 1887, but was soon replaced by a larger Church next to the school which was known as the iron chapel due to its iron covering.
This "temporary" building lasted 70 years and was replaced in 1957 by the present church on Harvey Street. The registers from ca 1888 are still with the Parish Priest.
