Ecotourism and Sustainable Development

Your Host Graham Mason
Tourism today is big business. Marketing experts like to create iconic landmarks which take great pictures. Wanting the quick hit of getting to see all the well publicised attractions tourists are herded like sheep between the selected sites. People will travel all day on a coach for a few hours stop at one of these icons so they can turn around and take the coach back again in the same day! The local communities and environment through which they pass become very secondary to the experience !

As intelligent travellers are becoming more aware, there is a demand for something more than traditional tourism.

While the details vary, most definitions of ecotourism boil down to a special form of tourism that meets three criteria:

1) It provides for environmental conservation.

2) It includes meaningful community participation.

3) It is profitable and can sustain itself.

Bibbulmun South is dedicated to these criteria. This is a local company run by Graham Mason. I live and make my income in Denmark and I am involved in a number of local community organisations. I conceived and help to run a local music festival, the Denmark Festival of Voice . I am involved with the Bibbulmun Track Foundation  as a Maintenance Volunteer to keep the track open and allow people to pass through with ease.

By taking this tour you will experience far more than the average tourist to the area. For economic reasons it's not possible for us to walk with you the whole way, but at the beginning and end of each day we will ensure that you get something from us that will enrich your experience immeasurably. Most people traveling along this remote area of Australia see little of this amazing coastline. Along the route there are small benches where you will get the opportunity to sit down and feel what words cannot describe in the utter beauty of the environment.

We really do look forward to meeting you.
