ABOUT ME
When I first designed this website I thought I'd leave this page until last as it would not take me long to do. It is almost two years later and I'm still attempting to complete it.

I guess talking about oneself is like writing in a diary and I never was a diary writer. However I like to teach and so I will continue in that vein.

This site has almost been like a pregnancy:
Conception; actually thinking about ideas and putting thoughts down on paper.
Development: learning a little about html and using a web design program.
Birth: the finished product and uploading the pages via ftp.
Growth; continually evaluating the site, making sure the links work, looking for new, interesting and relevant sites.
Each phase has been enjoyable but it is really only a means of providing a resource for others to use.

Midwifery found me when I was District Nursing. Like many things in life it sneaks up on you when you least expect it.
I enjoyed Nursing but I felt complete when I became a midwife. Women who labour and give birth continually teach me how to be a better midwife. This in turn enables me to constantly update and renew my skills to meet each woman's needs. The most valuable lesson that I have learnt throughout my midwifery practice has been to constantly review my practice, take something from each birth and mother to enhance my midwifery skills and be ever mindful of what the mother wants to do, even if it doesn't conform to my understanding of birth.

In 1954 I was born in a small country town in North Eastern Victoria called Omeo.
It was mainly a cattle and sheep growing region when I was young, but now includes tourism and wine growing as attraction features. In winter the nearby Bogong High Plains are home to many skiers who travel to Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain for Downhill and Cross Country skiing.
It was a very carefree and relaxing childhood with horses occupying most of my spare time. In 1968 I went to Boarding School, as education was limited at the local High School. In 1973 I commenced my Nursing training at the Alfred Hospital, after a short period working at a Magazine Distribution Business.

I worked for several years as a staff nurse at The Alfred following the completion of my Nursing Training in 1976. In 1978 I travelled for four months through Britain, Europe and Scandinavia and returned home to be married to Phillip. We travelled to New Zealand for our Honeymoon and by then the travelling bug had hit.
The following year we travelled to Nepal and trekked through the Rowaling Valley  Nothing compares really, to travelling through this magnificent area.
In 1979 I commenced working as a District Nurse in Geelong and in 1981 I commenced my Midwifery Training at The Mercy Maternity Hospital.
The following year I began working at Geelong Hospital, Barwon Health

After four years working in the Birthing Suite I left Midwifery to have my family. Imogen is 21, Meredith is 18 and Isobel is 15 years of age.

I returned to Midwifery in 1994 completing a refresher program and now work in the Family Birthing Unit, Baxter Maternity Services , Geelong Hospital, Barwon Health.

I will add more to add to this page as it continues to be developed.
