My history

I grew up in a small city called Port Lincoln in South Australia, I have five older brothers and one sister, my parents both were not raised by their own parents and therefore had very little.
I grew up in a small asbestos cladded house which my father built, school was just down the road and I did well at school. I stayed at school until I was fifteen, I didn't think it would be fair to my mother or father to stay any longer due to financial reasons, so I left to earn my own income.
I went from one seasonal job to another, I was working at the local abattoir when I met my wife, we were both young and married when we were eighteen. Unfortunately the abattoir closed down and neither of us was having luck finding permanent work, so we decided to travel until we found decent jobs.
We ended up in Darwin, we both found permanent full time work and quickly rose up the ranks, both ending up in management jobs. After seven years I was transferred to Alice Springs to manage a large store, we stayed there for a couple of years until the company I was working for was taken over. As Port Lincoln was now booming economically we decided to return to our home town.

After working a normal full time job for a couple of years I decided to start my own business, as I have described my life at this stage was very good, I had never suffered from depression or any other illness and I was a very happy, highly motivated, confident person. I played sports and was fit and healthy.

It was at this time on the 26th of September 1995 while driving to see a customer, a large four wheel drive failed to give way and my delivery van was no match.

At first although in shock I didn't think I was injured and tried to get out of the car, I couldn't as my legs were trapped.
