What does one look like? I have no idea, probably not like this. But this is what I managed using floorboards retrieved from a house being demolished up the road, some poles, and 4 ute loads of bamboo from a Water Authority drain in Bayswater. Shane provided the ute, Paul helped me frame the roof, and Bob helped thatch the roof.It covers a very shady part of the garden where grass just wouldnt grow. I still have to finish the crazy paving up to and under it, and build some steps. It gives us a weatherproof area for winter as my thatching keeps the rain out (although I guess the tin roof under the thatch could contribute). |

The inside ceiling. Bamboo is surprisingly bendy when you try to lay it next to each other. The technique I developed to pull the bamboo into line on the ceiling entailed the use of 4,000 clouts (nails), 300 m of tie wire, and 4 ute loads of bamboo. It also used up most of my annual leave. Not something I plan to do again in a hurry. The bamboo is still green in this photo. When dry, there will be a NO SMOKING rule in the gazebo. |
