For the Anzac weekend in April, Simon and Fleur went down to stay with Fleur's Mum and Dad in Albany. Although her Mum and Dad still live in Katanning, they have bought a house on a large block in Albany where they spend a lot of weekends. The house is an early 1900's timber frame construction built at the bottom of a steep large block. Albany is a port city, surrounded by granite hills. Their house sits half way up Mt Clarence, overlooking the city, the harbour and the location of a proposed marina. Its an easy 5 minute walk into the city or down to the beach. |

The weather was pretty good for most of the weekend, so we were able to sit out on the balcony as we drained every drop of alcohol available in the house. Although a rainstorm did come through while Simon was out for a bushwalk, leaving him a bit bedraggled. Mostly we took the opportunity to have a relax and catch up on some reading, while Fleur's Aunty and Uncle were looking after the house and the dogs in Perth. |

Simon and Fleur have been to Albany plenty of times before, so they weren't interested in the old whaling station or the granite formations. But being a bit of a nerd, Simon wanted to have a look at the new windfarm generating power from the winds that roar across the Albany coastline. Its quite eerie sitting at the bottom of the tower hearing the blades swish above you. The 35 m turbines used are some of the biggest in the world, and the 12 towers generate about 75% of Albany's power demands. |
