Preparing for: Mawson Expedition Re-enactment. by ABC TV film crew.

Firstly.... Added page REGETH Dec 2004     I figured some update was due and I'm thrilled that I was able to assist so many visitors since its conception.

Latest news.......  the above photograph was accepted to be published in a "Coffee Table" book next year by  an American company www.picture.com  Have a look for some great photographs from all over the world.  Why am I promoting them?. beats me !

Welcome !  My name is Reg Morgan living in Albury/Wodonga, Australia.
Very briefly, as part of an Army team attached to A.N.A.R.E. (Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition) I was extremely fortunate to sail to and from all 3 of Australia's Continental Bases twice within a 3 month period.
During the summer months from Dec 1981 until Mar 1982, this particular season was quite unique with a number of events eventuating in ample time to capture much of "Life" as it is in Antarctica.

A few years later I also visited the sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island and pictures of this amazing wildlife filled island are included here.

It is my intention through this and future pages to include many images regarding the great "Frozen Continent". There is nothing I would like more than to share with you many never seen before photographs and experiences. As I am new to this web page creating, I ask your patience until I am more competent in bringing to you..........."The best I can possibly give". Over 20 years has passed since my adventures, but assure you that not a lot has changed. (Other than my hairline)

"Anyone who has been to Antarctica, cannot leave unaffected by it"

Please respect my ownership of all Pictures/photographs on this site. Feel free to use them for non-profit.

The beginning
Every year, A.N.A.R.E calls upon the Army to assist in Ship to Shore operation at the Australian bases. The predominant work was transferring goods and materials to and from the ship under varying degrees of weather and conditions.
One of my trades within the Army was that of Marine Engineer. This ultimately led to my selection and secondary task of repair and maintenance of the "LARC's". These craft were a vital part in the success of the many tasks required to be undertaken. I would go so far as to say that of all the vehicles and equipment used by the Army, these Amphibious "Truck Boats" would be the most versatile and reliable that I have encountered.

Sheer coincidence that crafts name is same as mine.  MY BOAT  117 117
George Friend gives the lens a wave. Touring Davis base I think. Ironically, this craft is currently stored at Army Museum in my home town. (inseparable partnership perhaps)

Beards OFF

As you may see, much time was spent at Mawson due to fact that Nanok "S" had to return to Melbourne half laden for more stores/equipment. (not wait for ice thaw).
Extremely fortunate to have so much time available for sightseeing and the like. The Larc's once again proved to be an invaluable asset in accessing many areas.

I don't profess to be a good photographer by any means, but without the invaluable help i received from Liz Parer I would never had achieved the results I did from using my "Antiquated" Yaschica Viewfinder camera. (playing poker at 1st Armoured Regiment payed off)

All photographs displayed on this site were taken by myself.
I have deliberately reduced the amount of text and in most cases merely provided images.
Because of the sheer volume of information that is available, I have included the link to the
"Australian Antarctic Division" for more detailed information such as historical facts, current issues, maps, links, and even school project ideas.
